Container gardens include tiny flowerpots to huge containers too big to move around. They can be indoors, on a balcony, in a greenhouse, or outside. You can grow vegetables (my emphasis), flowers, herbs, fruit… just about anything. Though your plants may need watering more frequently than plants growing in the earth, they do need less water overall. If you get or make self-watering planters, you’ll have more time between waterings. I’m also a big fan of a kind of container called the Smart Pot.

It’s such a thrill to grow this way! I’m making it my main way of gardening now, though I do also work out in our yard.

I planted everything in our greenhouse four to six weeks ago and already there is a lot to see. (This is the second in a series on container gardens… the first one is here.) We are eating arugula and bok choy with small bits of cilantro, basil, and parsley.
